On February 1, 2016, I went for a routine mammogram and was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, my life has been filled with biopsies and many, many tests. I was shocked, and a bit shaken. Now, I am the one in need of healing. Cancer is scary.
My yoga journey began 8 years ago when my husband was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Yoga gave me a place and practice to clear my head. Soon after, I realized there were wonderful changes in my body and attitude. In 2015, after deepening my practice and seeing how many positive changes it made in my life, I decided to quit a stressful corporate job and become a yoga teacher.
Working at a major bank for many years in the collections department, I saw the toll work took on people in lifestyle and less healthy coping. Embracing the joy yoga brought to my life, I now teach at two studios and help others heal. Healing might start, as it did for me, with a space and routine to clear worrisome thoughts.
On April 6th, I will have a lumpectomy and two lymph nodes removed. I will have radiation every day for 6 weeks. The doctor said it is a good outcome from the diagnosis, and he attributes this to my good health. I attribute my good health and attitude to my yoga practice.
I believe that going through a healing process of my own will deepen my appreciation for steadying and healing effects of yoga, and help me help others heal. It’s changed my life for the better.
I owe my life to this healing practice and look forward to teaching others!
